Jabotech Creative Media Limited was founded and registered in 2015 as a private limited company. We were driven by the desire to transform lives by disrupting the status quo in the health and education systems in Africa. We discovered an opportunity to use digital and mobile technology to revolutionize maternal health and child care in Kenya and the whole of Africa. The state of maternal and child mortality in Kenya is worrying with the statistics showing at least 8,000 women die while giving birth in Kenya every year.
The reason for this is not far-fetched; most mothers in Kenya’s rural communities often lack information about what services they need, what they can do, how often and when they need to seek the services. Pregnant women are also not being informed on the importance of going for at least four antenatal care visits, to be attended by a skilled health worker during childbirth and to receive postpartum care. The ‘traditional’ means of ensuring access to health care have become grossly inadequate.
For this reason, there was a need for innovative and cost-effective solutions that could empower and engage pregnant women and mothers on antenatal and postnatal care, as well as child care. We are also very encouraged by the growing evidence that many of these deaths could be avoided through access to better information and access to skilled birth attendants – or urgent care helped by the use of mobile phones and messaging services . In this regard, BabyMed was conceived as a platform to deliver maternal and child health care information and services. We are on a mission to revolutionize the health care system in Kenya through digital health and mobile technology
Our innovative solution BabyMed provides age and stage-based messages aligned with global best practices, empowering women to make the best decisions for themselves and their families. We leverage on the high number of mobile devices to inform and empower mothers to adopt healthy behaviors and to access maternal and child health services. With increased access to high quality, relevant local health information, mothers and families would demonstrate improved health-seeking and preventative behaviors, including uptake of antenatal care, early care-seeking in response to childhood illness, hand washing, cord care, etc., that should ultimately contribute to improved maternal and child survival
